Redwood Falls USPSA

USPSA at RFSC

Redwood Falls Sportsmen’s Club is proud to host a local chapter of the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) — bringing nationally recognized practical shooting competition to our range. As part of the RFSC Action Pistol Committee, USPSA complements our Defensive Pistol League by offering a dynamic, standardized competitive format for shooters who want to test and measure their skills in a structured environment.

Whether you’re looking to push your performance, compete against yourself, or join a broader competitive community, USPSA at RFSC delivers a safe, challenging, and rewarding shooting experience.

What Is USPSA?

USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association) is the national governing body for practical shooting in the United States and part of the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC).

The sport is built around dynamic, scenario-based stages designed to test three core elements:

  • Speed
  • Accuracy
  • Power

Each match consists of multiple stages requiring shooters to move, reload, engage targets from different positions, and solve stage challenges — all while maintaining strict safety standards.

USPSA competition is measurable and structured, allowing participants to track performance, earn classifications, and grow within a nationally recognized system.

Do I Need to Be a USPSA Member?

You do not need to be a USPSA member to shoot our local matches. Non-members are welcome to participate and experience USPSA competition at RFSC.

However, purchasing a USPSA membership allows you to:

If you decide you enjoy the sport and want to measure your progress on a broader scale, joining USPSA is a natural next step — but it is not required to get started.

What to Expect at an RFSC USPSA Match

Our local USPSA matches are designed to be:

  • Professionally run
  • Safety-focused
  • Competitive yet welcoming
  • Challenging and engaging

Participants can expect multiple thoughtfully designed stages that vary in layout and complexity throughout the season. Each match provides an opportunity to refine technical skills, improve stage planning, and develop consistency under time pressure.

While USPSA is competitive, it is also community-driven. Shooters reset stages together, share insights, and encourage one another throughout the match.

Who Should Shoot USPSA?

USPSA is a great fit for:

  • Shooters looking to elevate their handgun skills
  • DPL participants ready for a new challenge
  • Competitors who enjoy measurable performance standards
  • Responsible gun owners who want more structured range time

While USPSA is more dynamic and rules-driven than beginner-focused league formats, new competitors are welcome. We encourage shooters to attend an intro night or reach out with questions before their first match to ensure they feel prepared and confident.

A Growing Opportunity for RFSC and the Community

Launching a USPSA chapter at RFSC strengthens our commitment to providing consistent, high-quality shooting opportunities for members and guests.

USPSA also has the potential to draw responsible gun owners from surrounding communities to Redwood Falls. Competitive shooters often travel for matches — supporting host clubs and local businesses along the way. By offering USPSA, RFSC expands both its programming and its reach.

Together with Defensive Pistol League, USPSA helps create a full-season calendar of action pistol events — offering variety, challenge, and regular opportunities to get out and shoot.
