We’re proud to offer expanded shooting opportunities through our Action Pistol programs at Redwood Falls Sportsmen’s Club. What began as a strong and successful Defensive Pistol League has grown into a more comprehensive structure under the Action Pistol Committee creating more consistency, more engagement, and more time on the range for handgun shooters.
Today, Action Pistol houses both Defensive Pistol League (DPL) and USPSA competition. This structure allows us to provide more frequent events throughout the season while continuing our commitment to safety, skill development, and well-run competition.
Whether you're looking to build foundational handgun skills, enjoy friendly league competition, or challenge yourself in a nationally recognized format, Action Pistol offers a clear pathway for shooters of all experience levels.
With alternating DPL and USPSA events throughout the season, members and guests can expect regular opportunities to train, compete, and connect often nearly every week.
Defensive Pistol League (DPL)
Defensive Pistol League remains the foundation of Action Pistol at RFSC and it continues to be one of the most accessible and welcoming ways to get involved in practical shooting.
Held every other Tuesday evening during the season, DPL typically features 3–5 courses of fire designed to simulate practical defensive scenarios. The format emphasizes safe gun handling, steady skill progression, and supportive competition.
As part of the expanded Action Pistol structure, DPL now fits into a broader calendar of handgun events giving participants more opportunities to apply what they learn and stay consistently engaged throughout the season.
DPL is intentionally beginner-friendly while still offering enough challenge to keep experienced shooters sharp. It’s a great opportunity to:
- Build safe, confident gun-handling skills
- Improve accuracy and efficiency
- Practice drawing, movement, and stage planning
- Enjoy friendly competition in a supportive environment

USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association)
As part of our expanded programming, Action Pistol now includes USPSA competition offering members and guests access to a nationally recognized practical shooting format right here at RFSC.
USPSA is the national governing body for practical shooting in the United States and part of the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC). This competitive discipline focuses on dynamic, scenario-based stages that test a combination of speed, accuracy, and power using handguns or pistol-caliber carbines (PCC).
Adding USPSA strengthens our commitment to providing structured skill development opportunities at multiple levels. Shooters who begin in DPL can progress into USPSA competition if they choose, creating a natural pathway for growth within the same club community.
USPSA matches challenge participants to problem-solve under time pressure while maintaining strict safety standards. For those looking to elevate their shooting and compete within a measurable national framework, USPSA delivers a high-energy and rewarding experience.
Shooting Opportunities Throughout the Season
The Action Pistol schedule is intentionally structured to maximize participation and range access. By alternating Defensive Pistol League and USPSA events, we’re able to provide consistent, organized shooting opportunities throughout the season often nearly every week.
Introductory nights are offered early in the season for both programs, making it easy for new shooters to learn the format and get comfortable before jumping into regular competition.
