Here’s what has happened in the last few months and what’s to come!
This past year, we initiated discussions about expanding our pistol bays, a popular section of our sportsmen’s club. Adding more bays including an enlarged bay would provide additional options for use and create more space during peak times.
During a recent inspection of the 135-Kilovolt line that runs along the north side of our Sportsmen’s Club property, the Redwood Area Power Company discovered multiple areas damaged by bullets lodged in the wiring. We are taking steps to address this issue.
Planning is well underway for the annual member appreciation banquet and we have an exciting update: This year we are hosting it at a brand new venue!
The next session of Hunter Education / Firearm safety has been scheduled, with a new location this year.
We’re busy planning organized activities for the year. Do you have ideas for other activities you’d like to see at the club? Want to take the lead and organize an event?
It’s time to renew your membership! The cost remains $55 for an annual membership.
Power Line Damage
Fortunately the damage was repairable this time, but severing this power line would cause a blackout in Redwood Falls. Whether the damage was caused by ricochets or someone deliberately aiming at the wire or something on the wire, it’s a Federal and State felony to damage property, in addition to being unsafe firearm handling. If it happens again the power company may be forced to take legal action against the club which may result in the ranges being shut down.
We are taking multiple approaches to address this issue, including member education, signage, and installing “no blue sky” baffles on all 3 rifle ranges.
You should have received an email about ricochet prevention and/or seen the postings on our website and facebook page. If you didn’t get it or haven’t had a chance to read it yet, here’s a brief overview. It’s crucial that ALL rounds impact the berms. Shooting at a target without a backstop can cause bullets to leave the range in any direction, which poses a serious safety issue. Place targets directly in front of the berm, not midway down the range. Move closer to the target instead of moving the target closer to you.
It is your responsibility to ensure your projectiles impact a berm.
Pistol Bay Expansion
Last year, we began to explore costs and potential layouts. We purchased an acre of CRP land for the expansion and had the land evaluated. This year, we formed a committee to solidify plans.
We look forward to sharing these plans with you once they are ready to unveil! If everything goes well, we could break ground on the project later this spring.
