We are trying something new this year. Instead of mailing out the newsletter with raffle tickets and renewal form we are going to do it with this email. This saves the club several hundred dollars that we will use to continue with range improvements. You can mail your payment and receive your card in the mail, or you can pay online at www.rwfsportsmensclub.com and download your membership card. The gate code will be changed after April 15.
The Club is doing very well. We finished the year with over 500 members. With the record number of guns being sold we hope to see even more people enjoying the range. As always, we want to encourage you to join in the many organized shooting events that we sponsor. It is a great way to improve your skills, meet new friends, and enjoy the outdoors. New participants and members are always welcome. Check out the Events section of the website for event dates.
The banquet is cancelled again this year, however, we are making plans to have a Family Fun Day at the range on Saturday May 22 in its place. This will be a catered event so let us know if you plan on attending and how many.
We are looking for volunteers to assist with other activities at the range. Items like running a match, setting up 3D archery targets, and range maintenance to name only a few. There are several returning events and new events planned this year that could use volunteers.
Trap shooting will be Tuesday and Thursday nights starting in May. In June we are starting the league for the summer season. Come when you can, you can shoot to catch up or shoot ahead if you will not be there for a week or two. cost ,is $4.00 for adults, @2.50 for juniors per round of 25 clays. A punch card for five rounds of trap is available for $18 for adults or $12 for juniors. This is a great family activity that can be enjoyed by all ages.
The Archery Committee plans to conduct 3D shooting events again this summer. June 5-6 and August 21-22. Cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members.
Military Issue Rifle day will be back Saturday June 26. This event gives you a chance to bring out that old rifle that has stored way back in the closet and show it off and even shoot a few rounds. Let us know if you are interested and come out and join the fun.
Defense Pistol Matches are going to be conducted every other Tuesday starting in May 4 and continuing through August 24 for a total of nine nights of shooting. A free introduction match is scheduled for Tuesday April 27 . Come out and shoot it and find out what is planned for the rest of summer. Cost is $10 a night or $80 for members if you pay for all nights in advance. Round count is between 30 and 40 rounds per night. Sign up begins at 5:30pm each night with shooting beginning at 6:00pm. There are two weekend matches scheduled for July 10 and August 14. Cost will be $35 with a round count between 60-80.
Rimfire Wednesday is also returning every other Wednesday of the month April 28 through August 18 in the week opposite Defense Pistol. A variety of challenging courses of fire are planned for each match. Cost is $5.00 per night. Sign up begins at 5:30 PM with shooting beginning at 6:00pm
We are conducting the Coyote match the first Saturday June 5 and October 2. This is a two-person team shooting any rifle any sight, shooting ten shots each at 200 yards and 300 yards on the ground. No lead sleds.[AC4] The Shot Marker system will be used so you can see the results instantly on your cell phone or tablet. Cost is only $20 per team.
New this year, we are planning on conducting a Fire and Police Charity Shoot in August. It is open to everyone. The four-person team will shoot a Coyote match, two rounds of trap, and two Defensive Pistol stages. The three best scores from each team for each event are used to determine the winning team. The winning team selects the charity for the proceeds to go to. Competitors furnish their own ammunition. Cost per team is $100.
There can never be enough safety on the range. Shooting the pistol steel targets with a centerfire rifle cartridge in an AR pistol or any rifle is NOT safe. It also damages the frame and that creates unsafe conditions for others. When shooting steel pistol targets, do not get closer than 7 yards, 10 yards is better. Do not leave loaded firearms unattended. Wear eye and ear protection. All shots should impact the berm, shooting at the ground causes ricochets. Please be responsible and ethical. If you see a problem that needs attention, please let us know.
Are you interested in giving back to the community? There are two activities you can get involved with. The DNR is conducting a Hunter Education Firearm Safety Instructor class on Mar 18. Contact Jennifer Mueller Southwest Regional Training Officer, MN DNR Division of Enforcement, Email: [email protected] https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/safety/instructors/process.html Another opportunity is becoming a 4H Shooting Sports Wildlife Coach class on April 10. Instructors are always need for archery, air rifle and air pistol, black powder, and shotgun. Contact Stacy J at 507-637-4025, 507-430-3102, or [email protected] for more information.
Once again, a big thanks goes out to Bob Rohlik for grounds maintenance, Pete Weis and Gene Malecha for road and range maintenance, and everyone else who made the effort to keep the range safe and clean. You can help maintain the range by picking up after yourself.
Several anti-gun bills have been introduced to the Minnesota Legislature and in the US Congress. While the politicians claim that they are for common sense gun control measures, the bills submitted to date concerning enhanced background checks and red flag laws will do nothing to reduce gun violence. Join organizations such as the National Rifle Association, Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus and Minnesota Rifle and Revolver Association. Send letters, emails, and make phone calls. Be polite and let them know that to best represent you they should vote against measures such as H.R. 8, H.R. 1112, H.R 1446, H.R. 127, and S 42. Please stay informed and let your Senators and Congressman/Representative know your position. https://fischbach.house.gov/ https://www.smith.senate.gov https://www.klobuchar.senate.gov [email protected] [email protected]
