Redwood Falls Sportsmen’s Club Fall 2025 Newsletter
As summer fades and fall arrives, the changing leaves and harvest signal the start of hunting season. Duck and pheasant hunting are underway, and deer hunting is just around the corner!
Bylaws Update & 2026 Board Elections
It's been a busy year for the club. We updated our bylaws in late spring, and elections for new board members will take place during our annual meeting on 14 January 2026 at 7:00 PM at Redwood Falls American Legion. Nominations are open. An email listing candidates will be sent in December.
Successful 2025 Defensive Pistol League Season
The Defensive Pistol League experienced another successful season this summer, with an average attendance of over thirty participants each evening. While participant performance was scored, the primary objective remained focused on individual skill development. Each session featured three stages incorporating both paper and steel targets, with an average round count of seventy per evening. A dedicated subgroup, "Larry’s Ladies," participated together on the same squad, benefitting from both camaraderie and targeted coaching from Larry, resulting in notable improvements in their shooting abilities throughout the season. The event provided an enjoyable and productive experience for all involved.
					New Pistol Bays
Due to rising interest in shooting sports, we expanded the range with three new pistol bays. Thanks to a matching Midway USA grant submitted by Redwood/Renville 4H Shooting Sports, the cost to the club for this work was reduced by 50%. Affordable Dirt Works built the bays, which are now seeded and turning green. The shelter on Bay 3 is yet to be relocated. Steel from the east bay is now in the west bay, improving access for club members during concurrent events.
More Shooting Opportunities with USPSA
Beginning in 2026 the club will begin hosting sanctioned USPSA matches as part of the expanding interest in the handgun shooting sports. These matches will be separated from the established Defensive Pistol League matches. Interested people are encouraged to explore and participate in both exciting formats. More information will be shared as details become established.
					Power Line Damage Mitigation
Damage to power lines north of the rifle ranges was highlighted at this year’s banquet. Actions that have been taken this year include alerting membership to correct range etiquette, posting of reminder signs on the ranges, and installing 'no blue-sky baffles' to block sightlines to the wires. While there were 4 additional line strikes early in the year, we remain hopeful our efforts will eliminate future incidents.
Spring Trap Shooting
Redwood Valley High School was well represented again in the Spring High School Trap League with 26 participants. By all reports, they did very well at the State Shoot in Alexandria.
Successful Summer for 4H Shooting Sports
The 4H Shooting Sports also made a great showing again this year. Dedication to practice on Tuesday nights and some Saturdays throughout the summer resulted in effective performance again this year at the State shoot in September. Based on their individual performance, some will be invited to represent Minnesota next year the 4H Nationals in Nebraska. If you are interested in participating, supporting, and volunteering with the youth Shooting Sports let us know and we will put you in contact with the Redwood/ Renville Shooting Sports program.
					MN DNR Firearm Safety Course
We will again be conducting Firearm Safety/ Hunter Education in the spring. If you are interested in mentoring our young hunters, let us know. Our group of dedicated instructors is always looking for more participants.
