This is getting out a little later than I was planning. If I wait too much longer it would be the Winter newsletter.
Successful 2024 Defensive Pistol League Season
This past year we had a fantastic Defensive Pistol League. There were over fifty individuals who came out and tried their hand at the sport. We averaged thirty folks every other Tuesday throughout the summer. There were a couple of weather cancellations and rescheduling in the early part of the season due to rain. Each night there were three stages of fire with an average round count of 20 rounds per stage. Most stages involved some movement, magazine changes, and thinking. Some people say they need to practice before coming out. Or I’m not very good or I’m not competitive. To that I say, come out and try it. You will learn what skills you need to practice. The only advantage the experienced shooters have on you is you didn’t see them when they started. No one really cares on how well you do as long as you are safe. Your most sincere critic is you! This like all of the shooting sports is an equal opportunity activity involving seniors, juniors, men, and women and they are a very welcoming crowd. We also want to thank our Defensive League sponsors.
2024 Trap Range
There wasn’t much activity on the trap range this year. The Redwood Valley HS shot the Spring league Mar-May and the 4H Shooting Sports shot during the summer and conducted a Fall League Sep-Oct. The RVHS turned in some pretty good scores at State this year. If your daughter or son is interested in participating next year in the spring the signup begins next Feb and closes in mid-March. There are no late entries allowed. A big shout out to the Redwood County Pheasants Forever for sponsoring the HS trap leagues in the area with ammunition.
Sponsors
Speaking of sponsors, we want to thank Nelson Towing and Salvage, Dave’s Appliances, and Anonymous for their very generous donation of firearms for the banquet. Along with many business’s and individuals in Redwood Falls who donated prizes and other fine gifts. Scott Goodyear, Olson Chevrolet, Weelborg Ford, NAPA, Auto Value, Focus Financial, Ricky J’s, Electric Motor Co, Redwood Building Center, River Valley Arms and Ammo, Fastenell, Dan Gegner, Jeremy Waknitz, Candi Tisue, Laney Lu’s Boutique, Insurance Brokers of MN, Rise Nutrition, The Falls Cafe, Rubi’s Kitchen, & Plaza Garibaldi, Paia Weise, Hair Company and Spa, Overjoyed, JJ Jewlers, Blossom Town, River Bottom Dog Training, Vicki’s Camp and Country Jam.
Volunteers Needed
Trap Volunteers Needed
In the past we have asked for volunteers and weren’t too specific on what we needed volunteers to do. We do want to thank the individuals who assisted this year in maintaining the range from cutting the grass, to repairing targets and target frames.
Now we are asking for volunteers to take over and run the trap range. This includes running the range on scheduled days, collecting fees, and maintenance on the equipment.
Archery Volunteers Needed
We have a good selection of 3D archery targets that are not being utilized. We need a group of individuals to organize and conduct a couple of events during the summer. Or an archery league.
Rifle Range Volunteers Needed
There could be a lot more organized rifle shooting on the rifle ranges. Is anyone interested in conducting CMP Rimfire Sporter Matches or National Rifle League (NRL) rimfire matches.
Become a DNR Firearm Safety Instructor
There are other range activities that require volunteers. The Hunter Education and Firearms Safety program is a great way to give back to the community. The Sportsmen’s Club has been sponsoring this program for over 25 years and new volunteers are always welcome. We conduct a classroom program each spring and a couple of field days for online classes. We have been partnering with the Redwood Sheriff Department for the field days.
Become a 4H Shooting Sports and Wildlife Coach or Assistant
The 4H Shooting Sports and Wildlife is a great way for youth to be involved and participate in shooting sports that includes archery, air rifle, air pistol, smallbore rifle, shotgun, black powder and BB gun. Adults are invited to coach and assist.
How to Volunteer
If you are interested in volunteering contact us at [email protected] or 507-430-7761 for questions or more information.
Closing Thoughts
Our membership goes from April to April, sorta like your fishing license. New memberships and renewals will become available in mid-December if you are needing a Christmas gift idea.
We plan on plowing the range again this year. However, trash service may be limited. If you pack it in, we ask that you pack it out. If you discover a problem let us know so we can get it fixed.
The banquet is in the planning stages for next April along with Firearm Safety/Hunter Education. We’re always looking for help.
Everyone is invited to attend our monthly meeting that are held at the American Legion in Redwood Falls the second Wednesday of the month starting at 7:00 PM.
Shooting is Fun! See you on the Range.
