COVID-19 Update #3
Per the Governors Executive Order Order 20-33 gun ranges across the state should be closed. We confirmed this information with the Redwood Sheriff. We hope this is only temporary. So until further notice the range is CLOSED.
Larry sent the following to the Governor Walz, State Senator Dahms and Representative Torkelson. Senator Dahms replied almost immediately and said he would forward this information to Governor Walz.
In regards to Governor Walz’ latest Executive Order 20-33 Critical Sector Modifications Summary he states that gun ranges should be closed. I feel that is an excessive overreach. The one size fits all mentality is inappropriate. I checked with the Redwood Sheriff’s Office and they called up to State administration. They said ranges are to be closed and the only training allowed is for Law Enforcement.
At the Redwood Falls Sportsmen’s Club we have over 80 acres of which 15 acres are used for recreational shooting and firearms training. There are three rifle bays and three pistol bays. Except for some family activities there is seldom more than one shooter per bay with better than thirty feet between bay centers. The two shooting benches in the rifle bay are fifteen feet apart. There have been many times when I have at the range and there have been less than four individuals. Social distancing is not a problem. All organized competitions are cancelled. This is a perfectly safe outdoor activity just like hunting, fishing, or going for a walk. People are smart and will not put themselves at risk.
