This last weekend one of our members choose to ignore the sign at the pistol range and shot the steel targets with a rifle caliber cartridge. It might have been an AR pistol. It might have been a rifle. It was a .223. The result is damage to the target frame. It would be great if this individual would send a donation of $150 to fix the damage that was caused. It would be even better that after they sent the donation they decided never to return.
To the driver of the blue Lumina. When there is equipment operating down range, that range is CLOSED. I don’t care if you are a good shot. I don’t care if there is berm between you and the equipment.
Work is beginning on the new pistol bays. When the earth moving equipment is being used on a range, that range is closed. Look at it another way. If you were the equipment operator would you want someone shooting while you are working.
A few more things to consider.
When you go down range to check targets unload and leave the action open.
When people are down range do not handle your firearm. Period. Step away from the bench.
Be courteous and make sure everyone has their hearing protection on before you shoot.
Clean up your mess. That means no shotgun hulls left laying around. Police up your brass, you can leave it on the bench for the next guy but in a neat pile. Trash is thrown away, that includes used targets.
No exploding targets.
- Treat every gun as it was loaded
- Never point the muzzle at anything you don’t want to destroy.
- Do not put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
- Be sure of you target and what is beyond it.
I might be preaching to the choir but everyone needs to sing along.
Safety is everybody’s concern.
