Know the Rules

At Redwood Falls Sportsmen’s Club, safety is our top priority. Please follow these guidelines when using the handgun bays:

  • All shots must hit the berm. Be mindful of your target and surroundings.
  • Pistol bay benches are set at 25 yards from the plywood target stands.
  • Want to shoot closer? Move forward to shoot. However, be aware of safety distances when engaging steel targets.

Steel Target Rules

Shooting steel targets provides great feedback, but safety precautions must be followed to reduce the risk of ricochet:

Minimum distance: 7 yards (10 yards is even better for added safety).

No centerfire rifle ammunition on steel targets: This can cause damage and create hazardous ricochets.

Ammo Restrictions

To protect our steel targets and maintain safety, only certain calibers are permitted in the handgun bays:

Allowed

  • 22 rimfire
  • Small centerfire pistol calibers
  • 5.7x28mm
  • 300 Blackout SUBSONIC only

Not Allowed

  • Large bore or magnum loads
  • Centerfire rifle ammunition (e.g., .223, 7.62x39)
  • Shotguns

Example: If you are shooting a .223 pistol, you are NOT allowed to engage steel on the pistol range. However, 5.7x28mm and subsonic 300 Blackout are permitted.
